Smith Named As Hull KR President

Hull KR’s all-time record appearance holder Mike Smith has been appointed as the club’s new president ahead of the 2018 season.

The Rovers stalwart takes over the role following the sad death of Colin Hutton last year and will begin representing the club in his new capacity at the unveiling of the city’s Roger Millward Way last week.

A former England international during his playing days in the 1970’s and 80’s, Smith spent his entire career with the Robins and racked up a record 489 first team games for the club as well as scoring over 140 tries.

Rovers chairman Neil Hudgell said: “It was important that we took some time to find the right person to follow in Colin’s footsteps after the wonderful job he did as president for a number of years, but we’re confident we’ve found the ideal successor in Mike.

“As our all-time record appearance holder, he has Hull Kingston Rovers running through his blood and there is nobody better placed to represent us moving forward in what will be a key period for the club.

“I’m sure that he will be an excellent ambassador and we’re looking forward to having him on board. I know he already has a number of ideas of how he can have a positive impact in different areas across the club as he settles into his new position over the coming months.”
