It has been reported that World Rugby and Mastercard have renewed their partnership for Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan taking the sponsorship roster to the same six brands that backed RWC 2015.

Mastercard rejoins the main international rugby event for the third time and will be the “Preferred Credit Card and the Official Payment System” for Japan 2019.

The announcement is testament to Rugby World Cup's strong commercial interest ahead of the event’s first occasion in Asia. Having already concluded agreements with Emirates, Heineken, Land Rover, Société Générale, DHL and Canon (as an official sponsor) the partners and sponsors program is ahead of schedule with significant financial growth compared to 2015.

World Rugby president Bill Beaumont said: "Rugby World Cup 2019 will be a very special event that will break new barriers outside our usual audience, inspiring and engaging new supporters and participants; Our global partners are key in this story.

"We are happy to renew our very successful relationship with Mastercard and we seek to generate many unforgettable experiences and moments with the supporters around the world. I know Mastercard will make it 'priceless'.

Mastercard marketing director Raja Rajamannar added: "We not only want to celebrate the tournament and show our brand; We want to create opportunities for supporters to actively participate and experience the energy of rugby in ways we have not yet imagined. In 2015 we enjoyed making an oval world; We are happy to be back for the Rugby World
