  • Appeal Brings Rec Development One Step Closer

Bath Rugby has taken a step closer to realising their objective of a redeveloped stadium at their home Ground as the Recreation Ground Trust's appeal to the Upper Tribunal has been allowed. The Recreation Ground Trust's appeal related to a previous judgement made by the Charity Tribunal, in March 2014, which limited the Trustees' powers, including their ability to lease extra land to the club beyond what is currently used for the East Stand. Tarquin McDonald, Managing Director of Bath Rugby...

  • Bath to power Rec with renewable energy

Bath have signed a deal with renewable electricity company Good Energy to power the Recreation Ground as part of attempts to become more sustainable. The Chippenham-based firm supplies 100% renewable electricity sourced from wind, water and natural sunlight in the UK and that energy will also be used to power the club’s training facility at Farleigh House. The business is now Bath’s official energy partner and will help the club to generate more electricity itself, adding to the solar panels...

  • Tribunal Rules That Bath Can't Have Extra Land At The Rec

Bath Rugby's planned new stadium at The Recreation Ground looks likely to have to be built on the club’s current site after a tribunal vetoed plans to give it extra land. The independent panel has overturned a key proposal agreed by the Charity Commission to allow the club a bigger share of The Rec so as to develop a new 16,000-capacity arena. Instead the panel has ruled that only the land currently occupied by the club can be used. This means the land occupied by its permanent stands and the...

  • Bid To Have Rec Made Into Town Green Provokes Backlash

A resident opposed to moves to give Bath Rugby a greater share of the Recreation Ground has applied for the site to be made an official town green. But the application by retired NHS IT manager Jack Sparrow has been dismissed as a “stalling tactic” by the politician at the heart of the process of sorting out the Rec’s future. Mr Sparrow, from Bathwick, has lodged an application under the 2006 Commons Act to have the whole of the Rec, including the city’s leisure centre, designated as a t...

... Brownsword for meeting these losses, but it is unreasonable to expect him to do so in the future without support." Bath made a £283,000 profit in 2006 and a £29,000 loss the following year. Wages account for 69 per cent of the club's turnover and with the Recreation Ground limited to a 10,600-capacity, their ability to increase income is limited. They are in talks with the Ground’s trustees to raise the capacity to 15,000.
