Former RFU chief executive Francis Baron has written a "damning" 40-page report, commissioned by a group of past presidents, highlighting where he believes the RFU have gone wrong with their financial management the Daily Mail reported this week.

Baron is said to have had concerns about the way the RFU have been managing their finances since 2014, with a £7.7million loss in the last financial year. The RFU, despite making a £27million profit from the 2015 World Cup, are currently working through a cash-cutting redundancy programme that will see over 60 personnel lose their jobs. In addition, there is a £30m overspend from the original budget on the East Stand revamp.

The RFU claim that Baron's report is inaccurate and say neither he nor his backers have any proper idea how the RFU operate as a business in 2018.

An RFU spokeswoman told the Mail : 'It's unclear why a small group of past presidents and a former CEO from eight years ago have acted in this way.

'We understand that they are now very removed from the workings of the Union, so if they need more information, all they need to do is ask and we will happily provide it.

'We are simply not prepared to go back to a time of factions and "civil war". We have moved on from this and now operate in a very transparent way with a new financial governance model.'
